Electric Razor Reviews – Best Razor Reviews
These HONEST REVIEWS come either from genuine testing or from comments from actual purchasers
Comments are included – either good, bad or indifferent!
After all you don’t want a new razor to tear up your beard or give you razor rash.
This Review Site will help you to choose the right electric razor for YOU !
After all you only have ONE FACE so you should treat it with respect
Shaving has been a need for most men ever since a cave lady refused to cook a Mammoth for an unshaven hunter until he used a clam shell on his face.
Fortunately things have improved for all parties since then.
Safety Razors and Double edged blades have help tremendously.
Jacob Schick had one of those Lightbulb moments and the idea of a shaver with a motor was born..
Schick still sells Shavers today but companies like Braun,Panasonic
Have seriously cornered the market.
But which electric razor should you choose ?
It’s a big question and you seriously need an unbiased review of shavers to get the right one for you. As the best razors are not cheap (but I’ll explain that later)
I have reviewed the razors I found to be the best on separate pages on this site.
But before you consider which one to buy lets ask a couple of questions..

What type of Shaver are you looking for

• A shaver with a ROTARY HEAD
• A shaver with a FOIL HEAD
• Do you like to shave in the SHOWER -
• then you need a waterproof shaver
• Or do you need a DRY SHAVER
Why an Electric Shaver ?
Speed
Shaving with an electric razor is fast and safe
Its almost impossible to cut yourself with an electric razor
No need for styptic pencils or paper towels to mop up the blood either.
It’s a very quick way to shave without the bother of a wet shave..
Convenience
There is no mess with an electric razor- no gels or foams to smear on your face
And that you have to scrub off afterwards. Neither is there a need for soap and a badger hair brush (save the Badgers !) either. (I vividly remember my grandfather teaching me how to lather up soap with a brush on the palm of my hand.)
Electric razors normally come with shaving heads of various lengths so you can choose how long you leave your beard or moustache.
Rotary Shavers
Rotary shavers have round heads that rotate and spin round really fast to cut the hairs against a safe cutting edge. Better Rotary Shavers have double-action razors which have devices next to the blade to lift each hair before cutting to get a closer shave. There are also micro-action razors and these are designed to give much closer shaves than standard rotary razors . Rotary Shavers work best when you shave in small circles.
Foil Shavers have a vibrating mechanism that cuts off the hairs through the foil head.
Foil shavers have replaceable foils (easy to replace yourself)
If you have a heavy beard or loose skin you may get a better shave from a razor with a foil head.
Single Foil Cutters are best for people with not very strong growth of their facial hair .Supermarket own brand shavers are usually single foil.
The foil is actually a metal mesh and prevents the cutter from cutting or damaging your skin.
Two or three foil cutters are better for people with stronger tougher hair.
Double- and triple-foil shavers also work faster than single foil cutters
Dry Razors are the standard Electric Razor and are either corded mains or with rechargeable batteries
Wet/Dry Razors are dual purpose shavers that can also be used in your shower or your bath (because of the risk with electricity these are always cordless (with rechargeable batteries) Wet razors work best with water and good quality shaving gel.
Make sure the shaver is WATERPROOF – if it just says WASHABLE then that means you can wash the foil heads under running water – not take it into the shower or bath !
Because of the huge competition between Razor manufacturers there have recently been Great Technological Advances in Electric Shavers.
BRAUN and PANASONIC have made the biggest advances in electric shavers.
Some of their models have shavers with heads vibrating at up to 1000 micro vibrations every minute. Or heads that are so flexible that they will fit round every contour of your face.
Other RELIABLE BRANDS are REMINGTON and PHILLIPS(who also sell as NORELCO)
All of these have an excellent reputation for supplying good quality electric razors.
Electric razors do have to be cleaned so that they are hygienic and several models include a self cleaning facility.
SKIN TYPES
People with darker skin do have a problem with some brands of electric shaver (Remington is an example) due to skin bumps and I suggest a Norelco Shaver which seems to give a smoother shave for people with this problem and was suggested by a West Indian friend of mine
.
Will you choose a Corded or Cordless Shaver ?
Corded Shavers need a mains point To power them. If you travel abroad a lot you will certainly need a voltage adaptor (these may not be available locally) anf there are travel kits readily available.
CORDLESS SHAVERS are a very popular option and you should be aware that the batteries have GOT to be regularly recharged Check how long the length of the charge will last as you don’t want to have to recharge the shaver too often
Make sure a rechargeable battery shaver has a battery level indicator to show how long the charge will last. This is really important as a dead battery makes a cordless razor unworkable.
How does the Shaver feel in your hand ? You will be using it daily and it should feel really comfortable to hold. You can’t tell just by looking but both Braun and Panasonic are ergonomically designed to be comfortable in use. You can always try one out in a pharmacy of ease of use.
SHAVER MAINTENANCE
How much maintenance is there to do with the shaver ?
Is it Self Cleaning – this is the best option and takes the hassle out of that. Self cleaning razors usually have a cartridge that you have to empty or replace when it is full.
WHAT IS THE COST ?
You can buy a cheaper razor for as little as $20 or $30.
The most expensive Razors are over $200.
(Gold plated ones cost extra…)
The best buys at the cheaper end of the market are often supermarket own brands as the supermarket is putting its own name on the line selling these.
I would seriously avoid no-name brands as these often come from the far East and break down quickly. They are usually sold in fleamarkets, cheap stores
And by market traders.
The guarantees are usually worthless.Nice packaging though !
Think about how and where you are going to use your electric razor. If its just at home then a corded good quality razor will be adequate.
Technology on a more expensive razor is far better and you do get what you pay for. Battery powered shavers with replaceable batteries (normally AA) are really only good for vacations and these are not suitable for everyday use .
Don’t just choose by a BRAND NAME (although the brands I have mentioned are worthwhile) But if you have been happy with a brand in the past this may be a good place to start looking.
A good quality razor is a sensible investment and what you really need from the electric shaver is more important than the price.
On the other hand, however, for a sales person travelling a lot, a good quality razor from Braun or Panasonic will ensure a tidy appearance and ensure a close daily shave.
If you want to retain facial hair (a moustache, a beard or sideburns) then you should consider an electric razor with a trimmer attachment as it is quite difficult to be accurate with a standard razor unless you trim separately with a safety razor.
one question I am frequently asked is:
How Often should I shave ?
The answer really depends of how fast your beard grows- and your hair type.
Blond haired people can shave once a day and look immaculate – but men with dark hair from an Irish or Mediterranean origin may need to shave twice a day to get the same results.
Some men report that they get a better shave from an electric Razor after regular use for a couple of weeks. This seem to be your skin getting used to a new system after wet shaving previously.
You will always get the Best Shave by using an electric razor on your dry face (unlike wet shaving where you get a better shave with a wet face) This is because the hair stands out more and is easier for the razor to cut when the hair and the surrounding skin is dry.
Remember that you can cut both facial and leg hair with an electric razor but there are specific bikini line razors for more delicate parts.
You will only get a truly close shave with a high end razor from one of the companies I have mentioned.
Changing the foil is very easy – it usually only fits one way (they’ve met people like me before !)
Lubricate your new electric razor with the products the maker suggests (usually every few shaves)
The very best shave is currently still from a safety razor but the high end electric razors come incredibly close !
Lastly look at the comments from actual purchasers. While these will mostly be enthusiastic there will often be a few negative comments – often due tt high expectations from the user… there are always some people who are never happy with anything !
But there should be good reasons for negative comments.(and not too many of them !)
Remember to send the guarantee back to the maker after purchase as they prefer to sell spare parts to registered users.
Keep the Manual – you will eventually need it !
Thanks for visiting !
